the honour to state, with much regret, that the Colonial Secretary received on the 3rd instant, a letter from the Manager of that Bank at Shang-hai, informing him that, in consequence of a telegram which had just arrived from the Head Office in London, "the business of the Bank would be suspended until the receipt of further communications from England."
2. As Your Lordship is already aware, there were recently in the Oriental Bank deposits amounting to nearly fifty thousand pounds (£50,000) of funds belonging to the Government of this Colony. However, I am glad to be able to announce that all these deposits have been gradually withdrawn, in pursuance of the policy recommended in your Lordship's telegrams 195 of the 31st October ultimus.
